Why Are Cat Vaccinations Needed?

As a responsible pet owner, it is essential to ensure that your kitten or cat is vaccinated to prevent the spread of serious and often deadly infectious diseases. Unfortunately, there are several diseases that can cause serious illness and death in cats if not prevented with necessary vaccinations.

Feline parvovirus, for example, is relatively common, with widespread outbreaks still regularly occurring in the UK. Preventative routine vaccinations provide your kitten/cat with the protective antibodies they need to stay safe.

At Valley Vetcare, we provide cat vaccinations against feline panleukopenia, feline viral rhinotracheitis, feline calicivirus, and feline leukaemia virus (FeLV).

Whether you have welcomed a new kitten to the family, adopted an older cat or taken in a stray, you should make an appointment with your local veterinary surgery for a health check and routine vaccinations. A vaccination appointment with our team provides an opportunity for your kitty to have a thorough physical health check carried out by one of our experienced vets.

Do House Cats Need Vaccinating?

Yes. Although there is less chance of your house cat catching an infectious disease, it is still strongly recommended that you have your house cat vaccinated and remain up to date with routine vaccinations.

When Does My Kitten/Cat Need Vaccinating?

Kittens should have a “primary” course of preventative vaccinations, with the first being given at 8-9 weeks old and the second given 3 weeks after that. Before this, you should keep your kitten indoors.

Your cat should then have a routine vaccination appointment every 12 months; however, not all vaccinations are given annually, as some of them protect for longer than others.

If you have an adult cat and you are unsure if they have ever been vaccinated, your vet may recommend starting from scratch with a primary course of vaccinations.

What Is The Price Of Cat Vaccinations In Rochdale?

The price of cat vaccinations may vary slightly from one veterinary surgery to another. Valley Vetcare prides itself on transparency and affordability. That’s why we are always upfront about our fees. Here’s the cost of cat vaccinations* at our veterinary surgery:

  • Primary kitten/cat vaccination course £69.89, including leukaemia £107.09
  • Cat booster vaccination £65.40 (including leukaemia)

If your pet requires a consultation beforehand, the price is £45 for a veterinary consultation or £28 for a nurse consultation.

To reduce costs and help you save, we also offer a Pet Health Plan for your cat. As well as a full health check and annual vaccinations, the Cat Health Plan offers a range of amazing benefits, including free microchipping, a year’s supply of flea and worming treatments and more! It’s the cost-effective way to ensure your kitty stays in perfect health.

What To Expect At A Vaccination Appointment

At Valley Vetcare, we aim to make the vaccination appointment as stress-free as possible. First, one of our experienced team members will provide a full medical examination and ask you some basic questions about your cat’s health.

Your cat will then be injected into the skin on the back of their neck. As the vaccinations are combined into a single injection, only one needle is required. Most kittens and cats tolerate vaccinations well and have very few side effects.
